  1. 4 starsLovely Christmas novella with a ghost story intertwined Not as deep or detailed as Lady Emily typically is, but that s to be expected in a short story I thought it extremely well done for a novella I also think most Lady Emily fans will enjoy spending a little time with her Colin as well as meeting Penelope and helping to solve a mystery.

  2. This is a short story, not a novel, but it s a great Christmas ghost story combo It s very different from most Christmas stories and I really liked Lady Emily and how she tried to help the young woman who was definitely suffering from the haunting Even though I suspected the resolution, it was worth the read.

  3. Delightful Story Reading this fantastic story on a chilly late autumn morning was such a treat I love Tasha Alexander s writing and her shorter works are no exception After enjoying ten novels, I ve grown wonderfully familiar with Emily s world and family, so a visit there through reading is a pure delight.

  4. This ghostly mystery is very much a homage to Dickens It had a good mystery, bit I find it less engaging than the previous Christmas novella.

  5. Another quick Emily short story I think Star of the East had a better mystery, but I enjoyed the snowy setting I always prefer when Emily and Colin are in London

  6. Did not like this one as much as the other Christmas short story found it to be very Christmas Carol ly and I don t love that book either A fun, short, casual read.

  7. This was a wonderful novella, having a great story line coupled with a look at Emily and Colin during the Christmas season Emily and Colin have left the country for London, ostensibly to do some Christmas shopping, but really because Colin wants to avoid the pre season Christmas celebrations that their neighbors always plan So we find a grumpy Colin, irritated by Christmas carolers, definitely reminiscent of Scrooge In fact, Dickens Christmas Carol is mentioned, as well as a reference to his boo [...]

  8. This was my introduction to the series and I honestly was not impressed either by what passed for a mystery or the characters I found the plot bland in the extreme It was of a personal mystery surrounding one of Lady Emily s new neighbors, a peculiar lady who at first glance appears to be on the verge of madness It is obvious her condition connects with a ghostly apparition both she and lady Emily have seen, and while it did have some involving aspects, the solution is too obvious, the mystery [...]

  9. A fun read not as much suspense as I require but very enjoyable I will be a fan and read her subsequent novels Glad I persisted in reading the first I chose it because of the period I wasn t disappointed I especially like the way Tasha handles intimate marital experiences Up would recommend this to my many grandson.I like to sink into her vivid descriptions and play by play movements I read it during the holidays read it.

  10. A novella featuring Lady Emily, this was kind of a dud for me I thought it was going someplace much interesting than it did And, for the love of God, I m so tired of reading about how often Emily and Colin get busy WE GET IT THEY LIKE SEXY TIME Despite being married and having children SURE.

  11. Hardly a MorselI am a big fan of the Lady Emily series however, this story is not at the same quality as the novels Barely a sketch, filled with treacle and tropes let s call it what it is an amuse bouche positioned to preview her new novel.

  12. Another Christmas novella that has Emily and Colin in town for a few days during the holidays While getting to know their new neighbors a bit better a mystery pops up involving a ghostly looking woman who appears each night on the street corner.

  13. Short, atmospheric mystery with a touch of ghost story about it It s a quick, enjoyable for fans of Lady Emily, but other than taking place before Christmas not during it, as the title might suggest , it s not particularly Christmassy.Read for the HoHoHo Readathon.

  14. Short Christmas story featuring Lady Emily and her husband Colin Hargreaves A little spooky in the Victorian tradition.

  15. A short and sweet story about Lady Emily helping a young woman who thinks she is seeing the ghost of her dead sister.

  16. Wish Tasha Alexander would start a new series I love Lady Emily, but they are just not keeping my attention like they use to 2.5 Stars

  17. I always enjoy Tasha Alexander s characters and London settings This is a nice, period ghost story set in the Christmas season Nice holiday reading
